Torrevieja city, origin of name.
Torrevieja was founded administratively in 1803 when King Charles IV decreed the transfer of the administration of the Royal Salt Flats from La Mata to the nascent Torre-viexa.
The name of this place is due to the abundant towers of marine surveillance that are located by all the Mediterranean coast. There is still a replica today in the well-known viewpoint of the Torre del Moro (Moorish Tower).
The transfer of the administration of the Reales Salinas to Torrevieja represents the beginning of the history of this village. This beginning is marked by the development linked to activities such as fishing and salt exploitation, which is still maintained to this day.
